Project Drivers

When the building committee first met, building project drivers were formulated.  These describe requirements and goals for the final building.

Primary Objectives

When complete, the new UW-Whitewater CoBE Building must:
  • Foster connection, interaction, communication, and community
  • Ensure no limits on technology
  • Create an open feel, a transparency to its environment, and maximize natural light within the building's spaces
  • Showcase the differentiating mission, curriculum, and programs at the UW-Whitewater College of Business and Economics, for example our international connections
  • Foster formal and informal interaction in face-to-face spaces
  • Provide a comfortable, fully accessible place with appropriate ambiance - a place people want to work, study, and return after graduation.
  • Provide a strong, attractive, welcoming, and distinctive timeless image
  • Ensure optimal flexibility, functionality, and ease of maintenance
  • Ensure the building is worth updating 30 years from now

When project drivers are achieved, the College of Business and Economics will:

  • Be the envy of similar AACSB schools
  • Be seen as a wise spending of tax dollars

Location and Design Drivers

  • Big statement to Starin Road, including two-story atrium space facing or very close and visible to Starin road
  • Openness to Starin Road and pedestrian mall to the East
  • Visibility and transparency; ability to see into the building's activity
  • Two story atrium ideally outside 400 person lecture hall and continue through building if practical
  • Allow entry on four sides of building, including Upham Hall and pedestrian mall on the East, Starin Road to the North, the University Center to the South, and Starin Road to the West
  • Building orientation should allow for greater glass along the North and South elevations to minimize glazing on the East and West elevations.
  • Provide view corridor from Visitor Center to South along campus
  • Allow adequate site area for the proposed Residence Life building
