Career Opportunities:
Many accounting graduates entering public accounting start in financial auditing. Others go directly into tax planning and preparation or system development. Private industry offers a diversity of opportunities from services to production to banking. Accounting graduates generally begin with either management accounting or internal auditing. From those beginnings, accountants can progress to many diverse roles within the organization, ranging from controllership to general management and even to president or chief financial officer positions.
Placement:
Most UW-Whitewater accounting majors begin their careers as public accountants or in private industry. In recent years, the placement success rate for accounting graduates has been over 95 percent. Some of the public firms that often recruit UW-Whitewater graduates include all the big four, Grant Thornton, BDO Seidman, Virchow Krause, Clifton Gunderson, Kolb+Co and numerous other regional and local firms. There are also several respected private companies that recruit UW-Whitewater grads. This list includes such names as Lands' End, Kohler Company, Madison Gas and Electric, Wells Fargo, American Family Insurance and Kerry Ingredients.
