The accounting program at UW-Whitewater is designed to prepare accounting majors for careers as professional accountants in any area of their choice: public accounting, industrial accounting, or governmental accounting.

Most UW-Whitewater accounting majors begin their career upon graduation either in public accounting or private industry. In recent years, our placement success rate for accounting majors has been 95 percent.

Depending on their backgrounds and goals, most individuals choosing public accounting start in financial auditing. Others go directly into tax planning and preparation or system development.

Private industry offers diverse opportunities, from services to production to banking. Graduates generally begin with management accounting and decision making or internal auditing. From that springboard, accountants progress to many diverse positions within the organization, ranging from controllership to general management positions often leading to president or chief financial officer positions.
