Dr. Teferra had served at Ferris State in mentoring and leadership positions as Chair of the Economics Department, member of the Faculty Senate and advisor to student organizations.
Research Experience:
Dr. Teferra has published many scholarly works and a series of books on economic development issues. His most recent book, Lessons of Peace and Development: Gurage Entrepreneurship in Ethiopia, published in 2008, provides a look at a highly successful entrepreneurial group and seeks to uncover some of the sources of its success over time. Some of its general findings relate to the importance of work ethic, frugality, social networking and cooperation in allowing entrepreneurship to succeed. Dr. Teferra is continuing his research work in the area of entrepreneurship and economic development.
Consulting and Business Experience:
Dr. Teferra had worked in Ethiopia for a private sector firm to provide consulting services in areas such as small business finance, management and market research. He continued this type of real-world project work, some of it domestic and some international, through his days as Professor and Chair at Ferris State University.
Most recently, he was an entrepreneur in the true sense of the word as he opened and operated for three years (2003-2006) an upscale restaurant in Madison. He was an active member of the Wisconsin Restaurant Association and Chamber of Commerce during this time.
