Career Opportunities

Information Technology Infrastructure

The use of technology in business has increased the demand for infrastructure support personnel. Graduates of the program are well prepared for a broad range of computing positions. Information Technology occupations are among Wisconsin's fastest growing occupations within the next 7 years. Network Systems and Data Communication Analysts are predicted to be the second fastest growing occupation at both the national and state level. The Department of Workforce Development predicts 56.4% growth in this area. The department calculates the average income in this area for those with a bachelor's degree to be above $55,000.

Management Computer Systems

Businesses and non-profit organizations continue to need well-trained, entry-level information systems developers. The U.S. Bureau of Labor predicts that the demand for systems analysts will be among the highest demand occupations in the coming years.

The most common entry-level position for MCS graduates is that of programmer or programmer/analyst, with most graduates progressing to systems analysis and design responsibilities within two to three years. After graduates have been working for a few years they will have opportunities to become project managers, consultants, or technical specialists.

If they have management abilities and interests they can become managers within the information technology organization or they may move out into areas of business served by information technology. The top management position within information technology is the Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Business & Marketing Education

Business and marketing education graduates are awarded a teaching license from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Placement opportunities provide a 100 percent placement rate if graduates are willing to locate in a school district throughout the state of Wisconsin. There are also opportunities to teach in other states as the program has a national reputation for producing high-quality teachers.
