Computer Applications Test Information

The computer applications test is required of all business majors prior to admission to the College of Business and Economics. Pre-business majors should plan to take the test before earning 54 credits. Students who pass or transferred in COMPSCI 161 or 162 or MANGEMNT 999IS will not be required to take the test. But space in COMPSCI 162 is limited, and so we expect most pre-business students to take the test.

IMPORTANT!  SAM 2003 (3.1 version) will NOT work with VISTA operating system.  If your computer has VISTA operating system, make sure you get VISTA-READY CD at the bookstore.

Note:  SAM 2003 does NOT support MAC computers.  If you need a computer to download the SAM 2003 program, you can come to 3011 Carlson Hall Computer Lab.

Directions:

  1. Login with your UWW's username and password.
  2. On the desktop, click on "Business Programs", then click on SAM 2003
  3. Click on the "New User" button
  4. Follow the rest of the instructions from the handout (start at #5), which you should have gotten when you purchased the program.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

  1. Purchase the software: SAM 2003 Assessment and Training for Microsoft Office 2003 at the University Bookstore.
  2. Install the software on your computer. If you do not have a personal computer, you may prepare for the test in Carlson 3004 during open lab hours. In either case, you need to purchase the software, because you cannot take the test without the key code included with the software.
  3. In addition to the training available on the SAM 2003 software, you may go to the Andersen Library Reserve Desk to check out Microsoft Office 2003 by Shelly Cashman. It is listed under the Computer Applications Test course.
  4. After passing the SAMPLE Computer Applications Test (90% correct), you may sign up to take the actual test. (Instructions for taking the SAMPLE Computer Applications Test are included on the other instruction sheet.)

HOW TO SIGN-UP FOR THE TEST:

  1. Go to http://signup.uww.edu
  2. Enter your Net-ID (WINS Net-ID)
  3. Enter your Password (WINS password)
