YOUR ANSWER **YOUR DREAM** YOUR DEGREE

WHAT IS THE BUSINESS OUTREACH PROGRAM?
The Undergraduate Business Outreach Program is designed for individuals who are working and are pursuing their degree on a part-time basis.  Academic advising and registration are provided by the Assistant Dean's Office.

The General Business major is offered through evening courses, online courses, or a combination of both night and online courses.

Students interested in other business majors can complete the core requirements and possibly some of the major requirements through evening and online classes, but would need to take many or most of their major courses during the day.

If you would like a copy of the long-range planning sheet for both evening and online courses, please click here.

WHERE IS THE BUSINESS OUTREACH PROGRAM AVAILABLE?
The program is available through UW-Colleges, on-line courses and on campus in Whitewater.  Students in the Waukesha and Janesville areas are encouraged to attend the UW Center in their area to earn an associate degree or to complete general studies, College of Business and Economics unique and lower division requirements.  After completion of the associate degree or courses equivalent to general education, College unique and lower division requirements, the student is eligible to apply for admission to the College of Business and Economics.  Admission to the College is separate from admission to the University.

ARE THERE OTHER GRADE POINT AVERAGE REQUIREMENTS?
Yes.  After your admission to the College, you must maintain a 2.5 combined cumulative GPA in order to continue taking 300-400 business courses.  To graduate, you must have a 2.50 combined cumulative, a 2.50 in all business courses, and a 2.50 in your major courses.  All grade point averages include transfer units.

However, if you have a grade point average from previous college experience which is from five or more years ago and you have not attended college since that time, we may grant you an academic forgiveness.  We will disregard your old gpa and your gpa for the College of Business and Economics purposes will start over.

HOW DO I EARN A DEGREE?
The minimum number of units for graduation is 120, of which 30 must be taken at UW-Whitewater, and the last 15 units must be Whitewater units.

The Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program has five levels of study:
1.  Proficiency and general education requirements
2.  College unique requirements
3.  College lower division requirements
4.  College upper division business core requirement
5.  College major requirements

A student may also earn an Associate Degree by meeting the following requirements:
1.   Complete sixty units, including proficiency, general studies and breadth, specific course and diversity requirements (check the UW-Whitewater Undergraduate Catalog)
2. Earn a 2.00 grade point average
3.  Complete fifteen of the sixty units at UW-Whitewater during the semester in which the requirements are completed.

CAN I TAKE COURSES WITHOUT BEING IN A DEGREE PROGRAM?
You may take a total of 12 units of course work as a special student provided that you meet course prerequisites.  You must maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average to take classes.  After you complete 12 units, you must enroll in a degree program or cease taking classes.  The 12 units earned as a special student will not count toward the 120 units required for graduation.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE OUTREACH PROGRAM AND THE REGULAR BBA PROGRAM?
The Outreach programs BBA requirements are the same as the regular programs.  The differences between the programs are found in the services offered to Outreach students.  Because it is difficult for Outreach students to attend daytime advising sessions and other activities, Outreach students receive much of their advising over the telephone and email rather than being required to attend advising sessions or face-to-face meeting.  An Outreach student may call the Outreach advisor with any questions or concerns they may have.  All students have access to their Academic Advising Report (AR) 24 hours a day.  The AR shows the degree requirements and courses completed toward those requirements.
