What inspired you to pursue a major in the College of Business and Economics at UW Whitewater?
I chose to come to UW-Whitewater because of the Accounting Program, which is one of the best in the country. I chose to come here because it was far enough away from home, but not too far. Seeing the results that past accounting students had on the CPA test and comparing those results with other schools, and realizing that if I wanted to go into accounting, I should go to UW-Whitewater. Also, going to a school with an accredited business program factored into the picture as well. At UW-Whitewater, we have an outstanding business school for a fraction of the cost of other schools.
What are your short-term and long term plans after graduation?
Through the accounting program here at UW-Whitewater, I plan on earning an internship at a public accounting firm. If I perform well enough at my internship, I hope to receive a full-time offer to work at the firm after I am done with my schooling. I plan on going to Graduate School here at UW-Whitewater, and earning a Masters of Professional Accountancy. From there, I plan on taking the CPA Examination and then begin my career. When I am done working, I hope to look back and see that I was either a CFO of a company or an Audit Partner at a public accounting firm.
What organizations, sports teams or extra-curricular activities do you participate in?
I am Vice President of Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting organization on campus, that I would highly recommend to any accounting student at UW-Whitewater. I am also Vice President of the College of Business and Economics Dean's Advisory Council, in which we act as the group that unites all of the business organizations on campus. I played football here my freshman year, and I do intramurals just about every semester.
What do you like most about UW-W?
I like that UW-W has around 10,000 students, this is just the right amount of students. I like that because I am involved I have been able to meet the majority of accounting students on campus. I also like the opportunites that UW-W has given me to succeed in my career.
What do you enjoy most about your classes?
With class sizes being small, and as one gets into their major, you really start to have classes with the same people. It makes it nice when it comes to participating in class because you do not feel nervous. It is also nice because if I ever have any questions on homework, I can generally ask someone around me that I know.
