What inspired you to pursue a major in the College of Business and Economics at UW Whitewater?
I came to UW-Whitewater because of the reputation of success in the business school as well as the school pride that comes with being a Warhawk. I grew up around business and I remember being amazed as I listened to parents speak about business. I was inspired to pursue Human Resource Management by speaking to a past graduate of UW-Whitewater (now Vice President at a local corporation). She was extremely excited about business and about the opportunities that UW-Whitewater was able to provide her with. The classes are relevant and the professors knowledgeable. They provide many networking opportunities and guest speakers as well. If you want to know it, they will find a way to help you.
What tips would you give a high school senior planning on applying to UW-Whitewater as a pre-business major?
Work hard and get through the required classes. Eventually you will begin to see all your business classes tie together and start to make sense. It's also competitive, so jump at every chance you get to not only prove yourself, but gain more experience.
What are your short term and long term plans after graduation?
My short-term plans are quite simple, to find a job. I want to gain more work-related experience and I realize that at the moment the competition in the job market is even higher. My long term plans would be to settle in a corporation with great values and customer service. Ideally I would like the chance to design an entire HR system for a company that is growing.
What organizations, sports teams or extra-curricular activities do you participate in?
I am involved in Golden Key, Phi Eta Sigma, Sigma Alpha Lambda, and Zeta Lambda Honor Societies. I also was recently inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor society, and invited to attend a conference in the near future. I recently joined SHRM. I have been active in Residence Life and Campus Crusade for Christ in the past. I also currently am in Student Foundation and National Residence Hall Honorary. I enjoy participating in intramurals as well. I work a lot, including Tutoring at Center for Students with Disabilities and my nearby family's business. I also enjoy volunteering.
