Why did you choose to come to UW-Whitewater?
I did not choose to come to Whitewater. I am on a scholarship program called Fulbright and my sponsor (The US State Department) through the Institute of International Education placed me here. They place students according to their field of study and other criteria determined by the candidate. In my own case, I wanted a campus where I can both focus on my studies and also have opportunity to be involved in vibrant extracurricular activities. And UW-Whitewater met all my criteria.
What organizations, sports teams or extra-curricular activities do you participate in?
I was member of Collegiate Professionals of Whitewater where we provided consulting services to small businesses in the area. I am member and Dean's Advisory Council representative for Sigma Iota Epsilon (SIE) which is an Honorary Fraternity for Management. I was inducted to Beta Gamma Sigma, an International Honor Society for Business. I am member of and was Vice president of both the International Student Association and the African Student Association. I am also vice president of the Muslim Student Association. I a founding member of Interfaith Network which is a network of different religious organizations on-campus that tries to promote dialog and understanding among different religions. I play on the International Student intramural soccer team.
How is the College of Business and Economics preparing you for success?
In this fast changing environment, success depends as much as on specialized knowledge as it depends on flexibility and versatility. CoBE offers a wide variety of courses and allows flexibility in choosing them. By taking this opportunity to take different courses and doing different projects, students can develop a foundation and understanding of several areas where their careers may take them.
What is something special you have found out about Hyland Hall?
Wherever you are in the building, you can find a place to study or relax. Whether it's to read before an upcoming class or relax after one, you can always find a place to do so. Student organization offices also are a great addition to Hyland.
What is your favorite on-campus speaker, performance, or presentation?
The International Dinner organized by the International Student Association. It is organized every year and features dishes from all over the world and performances from both campus organizations and off-campus performers. Also, the Whitewater community is very present at the dinner. Fashion shows, songs, dances and other performances allow everyone to enjoy different cultures here.
