Undergraduate Advising Process

Advising is most effective when it is viewed as an on-going process in which the students and the advisers work as partners. Students must conscientiously work with their advisers in order to develop comprehensive academic plans that lead to successful career planning. Ultimately, students have the responsibility for their own educational plans and for monitoring all requirements for graduation.

When do I meet with an adviser?

Advising is a tiered process:

  • Students with less than 24 credits are advised within the Academic Advising & Exploration Center.
  • Students with 24 + credits are advised by the College of Business and Economics Advising and Career Services. Each student will be assigned a professional advisor, which will be listed on the student center of WINS.
    • One-on-one advising appointments may be required. Students will be notified by their advisor if such appointment is needed.
    • Department group advising sessions are offered every term.
    • Drop-in advising appointments are available every business day to address any quick or time sensitive questions.
    • Students are always welcome to schedule one-on-one advising appointments with their advisor.
    • Students are enrolled in an online advising course through Canvas that allows them to access advising related resources.
  • Two business career advisors are available to assist all business students with career exploration, resume development, interview preparation, internships, and other professional development services.
  • Faculty are always willing to help mentor students and answer questions about their field of study. To connect with a faculty mentor, please contact the department for a referral.
