Changing from a Non-Business to a Business Major
To change from a non-business to a business major, go to the department of your current non-business major to complete a Major/Minor Change Form. You then bring the form to the Assistant Dean’s Office in Hyland Hall 4300 for processing. Before making this change, however, non-business majors who want to change to business majors need to be aware of the college’s major change policy as follows:
In accordance with the admission policy on requirements for transfer students to declare a business major, the College of Business and Economics requires the following combined cumulative grade point averages in order to declare a business major. Students changing majors cannot be admitted directly to the upper division business courses without the approval of the Assistant Dean of the College.
- From 0 to 24 credits, a student must have at least a 2.00 combined cumulative grade point average to declare a business major
- From 24 to 72 credits, a student must have at least a 2.50 combined cumulative grade point average to declare a business major
- If a student has 72 or more credits, s/he must have at least a 2.80 combined cumulative grade point average to declare a business major
Changing From a Business to a Non-Business Major
If you are planning to change your major, please do so as soon as possible. You can then get an updated academic advisement report (AR) for the course selection and registration advising meetings.
If you are currently a business major but plan to change to a non-business major, you do not need to attend a business advising session provided that you complete the major change process. If you are in this situation, you should come to Hyland Hall 4300 to request a Major Change Form. After completing the form and taking a copy of the form to the office of your new major, your major will be changed. When this change is processed electronically, your business advising hold will be removed.
Warning: If you change from business to a non-business major and take business courses when your GPA is less than 2.50, you cannot change back to a business major without permission of the College of Business and Economics. Permission is not likely.
