This web site provides important information to help you reach your goal of obtaining an initial Wisconsin teacher's license. These requirements apply to everyone seeking endorsement from UW-Whitewater.

The contents of this website are subject to change by the College of Education and Professional Studies and/or the Department of Public Instruction. Students are responsible for consulting with their advisors, Advising Assistance Center, or the staff at the Winther Hall Information Desk regularly and participating in information or other orientation meetings to learn of changes that may apply to them. Updated information will be posted on the College of Education and Professional Studies' Facebook page and/or on the digital sign by the Winther Hall Information Desk.

Most child care facilities, school districts, counseling centers, and other organizations now require a criminal background check prior to allowing university students to volunteer or to complete experiences required in their programs(e.g., field work, student teaching, practicum). It is highly likely that you will be subject to such a procedure prior to graduation.

Anything negative in your criminal background may prevent you from participating in our mandatory field experiences, prevent you from obtaining a degree and/or disqualify you for a teaching license.

If you have concerns about what might show up in your criminal background check, we suggest you seek legal counsel prior to declaring a major.
