Basic Eligibility and Guaranteed Requirements

Basic Eligibility Requirements:

  • View Phase 1 Meeting: College of Education and Professional Studies Program Requirements
  • Pass all three portions of the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST), part of Praxis I Series 
  • View Phase 2 Meeting: Professional Education Orientation
  • Pass each course of the Pre-Professional Foundations Courses (EDFNDPRC 210, and EDFOUND 243/710, and EDFOUND 222 or EDFOUND 212) 
    • with "C"/"S" or better or be **concurrently enrolled
    • Not required for admission eligibility for *Early Childhood majors.
    • Possible waivers or substitutions must be on official forms and signed by your advisor and department chairperson.
  • Complete the Phase 2 portfolio evaluation by taking
      1. All three courses within the Pre-Professional Foundations Courses at UW-Whitewater
             OR
    1. If the INTRODUCTION TO EDUCATION AND TEACHING (EDFNDPRC 210) course of the Pre-Professional Foundations block is transferred in from another institution, you MUST take the Portfolio Development I (EDFOUND 214 for 1 credit)

      (Phase 2 portfolio not required for admission eligibility for Dual Licensure in *Early Childhood majors)


      (Phase 2 portfolio is not required for admission eligibility for *Early Childhood majors)

      Note: Passing the course Introduction to Education and Teaching does not mean you have passed the Portfolio requirement. Talk to your instructor to determine if you have passed the Portfolio requirement. The "non-academic milestones" on your AR must be updated to show if you passed the portfolio requirement.

  • Pass COMM 110
    • with "C"/"S" or better or be **concurrently enrolled
    • Not required for admission eligibility for *Early Childhood majors.
    • Possible waivers or substitutions must be on official forms and signed by the Communication Department Chair for typical undergraduates and by the licensure coordinator for those who hold a bachelor's degree.
  • Complete a minimum of 40 credits at the time of application 
    • *Early Childhood majors must complete a minimum of 30 credits by the semester in which they begin the Early Childhood program.
  • MUSED 111 Fundamental of Music
      • For *Early Childhood majors only. Early Childhood majors are advised to complete MUSED 111 (with "C"/"S" or better) prior to admission to Professional Education or be **concurrently enrolled in MUSED 111. (MUSED 111 is a prerequisite for MUSED 322, which students are scheduled to take during the first semester in the Early Childhood program.) Students accepted into Professional Education while enrolled in MUSED 111 must successfully complete MUSED 111 with a "C"/"S" or better in order to register for MUSED 322. Waivers or substitutions for MUSED 111 for typical undergraduates must be on official forms and signed by the Music Department Chair or Early Childhood Coordinator.
  • Achieve a combined cumulative 2.75 GPA

    * This is the dual licensure program that enables the accepted cohort group to obtain regular and special education licensure.

    ** Concurrent enrollment means that students are currently taking the course - not pre-registered.

    The 350 hours of experiences with learners is optional (not required) effective September 7, 2011.

Guaranteed Admission Requirements

For GUARANTEED ADMISSION, students must meet all BASIC ELIGIBILITY and all GUARANTEED ADMISSION requirements.

A. For GUARANTEED ADMISSION to the Elementary Education; Middle Childhood-Early Adolescence (MC-EA) Program:
Students must have:

1) a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher, or at least 120 credits with a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher in the most recent 40 credits at UWW, and
2) passed all three parts of the PPST (Praxis I), and
3) passed the 0146 (paper) or 5146 (computer) Praxis II exam.

B. For GUARANTEED ADMISSION to the Broadfield Social Studies Program:
Students must have:

1) a combined GPA of 3.25 or higher, or at least 120 credits and a combined GPA of 3.25 or higher in the most recent 40 credits at UWW, and
2) passed all three parts of the PPST (Praxis I), and
3) passed the 0081 Praxis II exam.

C. For GUARANTEED ADMISSION to all other programs:
Students must have:

1) at least 120 credits, and
2) a combined GPA of 2.75 or higher, and
3) passed all three parts of the PPST (Praxis I), and
4) passed the appropriate Praxis II exam(s).
