Types of Licenses

The following licensure programs are available at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. For available licensure programs at the graduate level, you should consult the graduate bulletin.

Level of Teaching License Licensure Areas
  • Dual Licensure: Regular & Special Education

 
Early Childhood
This dual licensure program is completed in a cohort.
Nursey (Regular and Special Education) Kindergarten (Regular and Special Education) Elementary and Special Education, (Approximate ages: birth-8).
  • Regular Education Licensure
 
Early Childhood through Middle Childhood
Summer School sessions required.
Pre-School, Kindergarten and Elementary School (Approximate ages: birth-11).
Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence
Must have an approved minor.
Elementary/Middle School (Approximate ages: 6-12 or 13).
Early Childhood through Adolescence
Students receive a license from DPI to teach Grades K-12 in their major at any level or type of school organizations (all ages in public schools).
Areas include art, business education, music, foreign language, marketing education, physical education, and the Master's Programs in reading, communicative disorders, counseling and school psychology. ESL, Library Media, Health, and Coaching are minors. (all ages in public schools).
Early Adolescence through Adolescence
Students receive a license from DPI to teach: major and/or minor in departmentalized middle,junior, or senior high school (Approximate ages: 10-21).
Major/Minor areas could include bilingual/bicultural, biology, chemistry, earth science, economics, English, French, general science, geography, German, history, math, physical science, political science, psychology, social studies, sociology, Spanish, and ESL. (Approximate ages: 10-21).
  • Special Education Licensure
 

Special Education
Students receive a license from DPI to teach:

  1. Middle Childhood through Early Adolescence (Approximately ages: 6-12 or 13) AND
  2. Early Adolescence through Adolescence (Approximately ages: 10-21)
Areas include cross categorical with either an emphasis in cognitive disabilities or, learning disabilities emotional and behavioral disorders.
