Katy Heyning named dean of College of Education

Katy Heyning has been named dean of the College of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

"I am delighted to announce that Katy Heyning will be the next dean of the College of Education," said Interim Provost Christine Clements. "Katy brings great depth and breadth of experience to this position, as well as strong leadership and respect on a local and state-wide basis. She is clearly committed to UW-Whitewater and the future of our College of Education."

"I am honored to be chosen to serve as the next dean of education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater," Heyning said. "With one of the largest undergraduate teacher education programs in Wisconsin, the College of Education has all of the tools necessary to become the premier leader in Pre-K through 12 schooling in Wisconsin. I am fully committed to strengthening the bonds between the College and the broader Wisconsin educational community, and I look forward to working with the many talented faculty and staff in helping them bring their creative ideas to fruition. With a solid strategic plan and a shared vision for change, I know we will become the leader that other programs are modeled after."

Heyning has been a faculty member at UW-Whitewater for 10 years. She has served as associate dean of the College of Education since 2005. Prior to that, she served as chair of the department of curriculum and instruction.

She was the 2003 College of Education Researcher of the Year, and was nominated in 2002, 2003 and 2004 for the College of Education's Teaching Award.
