ONLINE COHORT PROGRAM
NEW LOWER Tuition Rate$ in Cohort Program
Effective fall 2011, students enrolled in the MSE-PD Online Cohort Program will have the segregated fee portion of their tuition charges waived, lowering the cost of each three unit (credit) course approximately $145-150.* Further, the College of Education and Professional Studies will waive Distance Education fees for students in the MSE-PD Cohort Program.
The tuition for each three unit graduate course for the academic year 11-12 (and summer 2012) won’t be known until that rate is established by the UW System Board of Regents. The best estimate is that tuition rates at both graduate and undergraduate levels are likely to increase approximately 4-6% over current rates, which are currently $435.09/graduate unit (credit).
As such, given the Regents’ proposed increased in tuition and the waiving of segregated fees, it is anticipated that graduate units will likely cost between $405-$413 for all courses in the cohort completed during fall 2011, spring 2012, and summer 2012. Total tuition costs for the first 18 units of the program are estimated at between $7,300 and $7,500.
The second 12 units of the program are completed during fall 2012 and spring 2013, after the Board of Regents has adjusted tuition during the summer of 2012. It is estimated that a graduate unit during fall 2012 and spring 2013 will likely cost between $421-$440. Because the Supervision of Student Teachers course offered in spring term 2013 is offered free of charge, the estimated total tuition cost for the final two semesters of the program is between $3,800 and $4,000.
As such, the total tuition costs for the program are estimated at this time to be between $11,100 and $11,500. Note that these estimates do not include other incidental costs such as books or course materials.
NOTE: A report completed in April 2011 by the Fiscal Economic Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater determined that individuals earning master’s degrees in education-related fields from UW-W have, on average, enhanced their yearly earning $9,663 and enhanced their lifetime earnings by nearly $357,521. As such, it will take an individual completing the Online MSE-PD program approximately 1.25 years to earn back the cost of the degree.
*Students enrolled in the MSE-PD Cohort Program who register for courses outside of the cohort program will lose the waiver of segregated fees and will be charged full tuition rates for all courses during that academic term, including courses within the cohort program. Students within the MSE-PD Cohort Program are cautioned against registering for courses outside of the Cohort Program.
