Overview

Founded in 1868, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is known for academic excellence in a setting of high-quality, career-oriented undergraduate and graduate programs. Located in the friendly picturesque town of Whitewater, the 400-acre UW-Whitewater campus is near excellent outdoor recreation facilities yet is located within convenient driving distance from Milwaukee, Chicago, and Madison, the state capitol. The campus enrolls more then 10,700 students in its 46 undergraduate and 13 master’s degrees and one specialist degree program. UW-Whitewater is the fourth largest of the 13 campuses in the University of Wisconsin System, with a budget of approximately $173 million.

The University is served by over 1,100 faculty, staff, and administration who are committed to providing an outstanding curriculum characterized by innovation and individual attention. The campus offers and academically ambitious Honors Program and a wide array of undergraduate research programs. International Study Abroad opportunities are available in more than a dozen countries. The University boasts more than 160 student organizations. The Intercollegiate Athletic program includes 9 men and 11 women’s competitive sports teams with some of the finest Division III athletic facilities in the country.

The preparation of teachers has been a major part of the mission of the University since its inception in 1868. Students in the College of Education prepare for professional careers in teaching, communication sciences and disorders, physical education, recreation and coaching, occupational and environmental safety and health, and leadership, military science and aerospace studies. The college offers a wide array of majors, minors, and licensure programs including early childhood education, elementary and middle school education, and secondary education. The College serves both traditional and non-traditional students. Its undergraduate programs are complemented with a variety of graduate programs that include Library Media, School Psychology, School Business Management, Reading, Special Education, Communicative Disorders, and Curriculum and Instruction/Professional Development.
