Majors/Licensure (Undergraduates)

Undergraduates may choose either our Dual Licensure Early Childhood Program or the Cross Categorical program with an emphasis in either Cognitive Disabilities or Emotional Disorders/Learning Disabilities. A special education minor is also available that is linked to the Adaptive licensure if seeking teacher education. Beyond seeking licensure, graduate students may also pursue a master’s degree in special education.

The three undergraduate majors available are:

Cross Categorical with Cognitive Disabilities(CD) Emphasis

Cross Categorical with Emotional Behavioral Disorder(EBD)/Learning Disabilities(LD) Emphasis

Dual Licensure Early Childhood Education

Undergraduate students interested in Early Childhood Special Education should refer to the Early Childhood Education Major (ECE). The ECE major prepares educators to work with children with and without disabilities from birth through age 8.

Post Baccalaureate students interested in adding Early Childhood Special Education Licensure to an existing teaching license can complete courses required for an 809 license. The licensure courses are completed in conjunction with the Master of Science in Special Education - Emphasis in Professional Development program.

Fieldwork/Directed Teaching

Students participate in multiple field experiences in a variety of settings. All students gain experience in inclusive classrooms, secure settings, and as a co-teacher in general education.
