The Counselor Education department is committed to providing professional development opportunities for students, community counselors, school counselors, and community members. Past professional development opportunities have focused on topics, such as:
Addictions Concerns: When working with children, adolescents & adults in school and higher education.
This course will provide students with the opportunity to understand signs and symptoms of substance abuse and how environment, psychological and familial influences can be a precursor to substance abuse behavior. Studenst will also learn how to utilize specific strategies such as affect regulation and resiliency when working with children, adolescents and adults.
Trauma Treatment: A series of 5 trauma workshops
This workshop series will provide students and professionals the opportunity to learn about many topics such as attachment and neurobiology, trauma treatment, the use Emotion-Focused approaches, Somatic Experiencing and Sensori-Motor Therapy, as well as EMDR and brainspotting.
