Scholarships & Awards

Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching Scholarships

 

Students in both emphases of the Physical Education major should be aware of the following scholarship awards. Applications are currently being accepted (through February 22) for those whose applications are submitted online. (Van Steenderen Scholarship applications are solicited separately because of the unique requirements.)

 

 

Homer Englund Scholarship

Purpose:    This scholarship is intended to enable and encourage students to continue studies at UW-Whitewater in the fields of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching.

Eligibility:   The candidate must have:

·   Completed 60 credit hours of which a minimum of 20 credits must be in Health, Physical Education or Recreation Courses

·   A grade point of 3.0 overall and 3.0 in Health, Physical Education or Recreation

·   PE K-12 Licensure Emphasis or Health, Human Performance, and Recreation Emphasis

Florence Goodhue Scholarship

Purpose:    This scholarship is presented to an outstanding student enrolled in teaching certification program of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching.

Eligibility:   The candidate must have:

·   Completed 60 credit hours of which a minimum of 20 credits must be in Health, Physical Education or Recreation Courses

·   A grade point of 3.0 overall and 3.0 in Health, Physical Education or Recreation

·   Only open to students in PE K-12 Licensure Emphasis

James E. and Margaret F. Toennies Scholarship

Purpose:    The scholarship provides support to shall be made to a University Wisconsin-Whitewater student who has attained junior status in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Coaching.

Eligibility:   The candidate must have:

·   Attained junior status

·   Maintained an overall academic average of 3.25 or better.

·   PE K-12 Licensure Emphasis or Health, Human Performance, and Recreation Emphasis

Marty Van Steenderen Scholarship

Purpose:    The scholarship recognizes and supports outstanding Physical Education Teaching Majors through scholarship awards during their student teaching experience.

Eligibility:   The candidate must:

·   Have attained junior status at the time of application

·    Be completing course work in the semester just preceding the semester in which they will be doing student teaching

·   Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

·   Open only to students in PE K-12 Licensure Emphasis

 

Application procedure:  Written applications will be solicited from appropriate students who are participating in required courses. One award will be made each Fall and Spring semester each academic year. Inquiries should be directed through the Department of HPRC to the Chair of the HPRC Scholarship Committee.

 

 

Vonderau/Clark Scholarship

Purpose:    This scholarship recognizes students enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater who are majoring in physical education and pursuing a teaching license.

Eligibility:   The candidate must:

·   Be majoring in Physical Education K-12 Licensure at UWW (Open only to students in PE K-12 Licensure Emphasis)

·   Have been admitted to Professional Education in the College of Education and Professional Studies

·   Hold junior or senior status

·   Maintain an overall academic GPA of 3.0

·   Plan to teach physical education

Robert G. Weigandt Memorial Scholarship

Purpose:    This scholarship recognizes and supports a UWW junior or senior level student who has been admitted to Professional Education and who is majoring in PE K-12 Licensure and intends to coach in the schools.

Eligibility:   The candidate must:

·   Be majoring in Physical Education K-12 Licensure at UWW (Open only to students in PE K-12 Licensure Emphasis)

·   Have been admitted to Professional Education in the College of Education and Professional Studies

·   Have demonstrated a commitment to coaching

·   Maintain an overall GPA of 2.75
