Dr. Shurley came to UW-Whitewater in the summer of 2016.  Courses taught at UWW include:
     PEPROF 271: Structure and Function of the Human Body
     RECREATN/COACHING 480: Legal Aspects of Sport and Recreation
     PEPROF 371: Kinesiology
     RECREATN 423: Research and Evaluation in Recreation and Leisure Studies

Prior to Whitewater, Dr. Shurley taught at Concordia University - Texas from 2008-2016.  At Concordia, he served as Director of the Kinesiology major and earned the rank of Associate Professor.  While there he taught a variety of courses ranging from undergraduate exercise science and activity courses to graduate courses in sport ethics and sport history.  In addition, he developed and taught all courses in the athletic training program and supervised student interns.  

Before moving into higher education, Dr. Shurley worked as an athletic trainer for a former AA affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, interned for the NFL's Houston Texans and in the Seattle Mariners organization.  He also worked as a high school teacher and coached football, powerlifting, girls' basketball, and tennis.  

Dr. Shurley is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) as well as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
