Current Position of Service:
CPT Yard is the Assistant Professor of Military Science at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He is responsible for the program’s mission of recruiting, developing and commissioning the future officers and leaders of the United States Army.
CPT Yard graduated from Pekin Community High School in Pekin Illinois in 1984. He attended University of Dubuque in Dubuque Iowa, earning his bachelors of arts in Religious Studies with an emphasis in philosophy in 1999. CPT Yard completed the US Army Adjutant General Captains Career Course, Brigade Human Resources Course and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Course.
CPT Yard has more than 16 years of service as an enlisted member and Officer with the United States Army. His time includes a combination of service on Active Duty and Army Reserves. He has deployed twice to Iraq while assigned as the Battalion Human Resource Officer, 1st Battalion 504 Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division (Ft Bragg, NC). He also served as a Human Resource Training Team Officer, United States Army Special Operations Command (Ft Bragg, NC), Brigade Human Resource Officer, 528th Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne) and currently as the Assistant Professor of Military Science, United States Army Cadet Command (Whitewater, WI) at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater.
Some of his military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3), Army Achievement Medal (7), Valorous Unit Citation, Meritorious Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal with star device, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with two star devices, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Army Basic Parachutist Badge, German Parachutist Badge and the Ukraine Parachutist Badge.
