UNDERGRADUATE CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MEETING
MARCH 12, 2013 MINUTES

  1. Roll:  Present:  Dean Katy Heyning, Chair; Dr. Jennifer Petersen for Dr. Eileen Schroeder; Dr. Penny Portman; Dr. Todd Loushine; Dr. John Zbikowski; Dr. Scott Bradley; Jillian Smith; Tracy Arneson-Baker.  Absent:  SFC David Shono and Dr. Brooke Winchell.  Guests:  Dr. Carmen Rivers and Dr. Edric Johnson.

  2. Approval of Agenda
    On a Dr. Penny Portman/Dr. Jennifer Petersen motion, the agenda was approved.

    On a Dr. John Zbikowski/Dr. Penny Portman motion, the agenda was amended to exclude the Education Interdeparmental courses:  two Change in Major BSE, Description changes of EDUINDP332 and EDUINDP323.

  3. Approval of the minutes from February 12, 2013
    On a Dr. Penny Portman/Dr. John Zbikowski motion, the minutes of the February 12, 2013 meeting were approved.

  4. Curricular/Action Items:

    Change in Major, BSE, Elementary Education Elementary/Middle Emphasis

    On a Dr. John Zbikowski/Dr. Penny Portman motion, the above proposal was accepted.

    Change in Major, BSE, Elementary Education: Elementary/Middle Emphasis

    On a Dr. John Zbikowski/Dr. Todd Loushine motion, the above proposal was accepted with minor editorial changes.

    EDUCATION INTERDEPARTMENTAL
    Course Revision, EDUINDP453/653, Leadership in Early Childhood Education

    On a Dr. John Zbikowski/Dr. Todd Loushine motion, the above proposal was accepted with minor editorial changes.

    Change in Major, BSE
    Change in Title and Description, EDUINDP332, Reflective Seminar:  Exploration of Issues in Early Childhood Education
    Change in Major, BSE
    Change in Title and Description, EDUINDP323, Reflective Seminar:  Application of Issues in Early Childhood Education

    On a Dr. John Zbikowski/Dr. Todd Loushine motion, the above proposals were withdrawn.

  5. Information Items:

    • It is strongly encouraged that the sponsor of a proposal follow their proposal through the College Curriculum Committee and the University Curriculum Committee until it has been passed.  The sponsor is in the best position to respond to questions concerning their proposal and in expediting the approval process.


  6. New Business:  None

  7. Old Business: New Admission Policy - Dean Katy Heyning explained the rationale for the new Professional Education admission policy which will go live this week.
