For an exhilarating experience full of experts, knowledge and fun join us April 5-6, 2013 for UW-Whitewater's Early Childhood Conference. This year's conference includes experts in early childhood education, artists, authors and musicians. Our conference is a great opportunity for professional development and is great for networking with other professionals the field of Early Childhood Education.

I begin this letter in the wake of the losses in Newtown so the theme for the conference is even more poignant. Just as you do and will do, those teachers shielded their children from harm. Shielding children from harm clearly resonating with the theme of our conference. Teaching is not simply what you do for a living, it is who you are. When you leave your classroom, center, office, school you do not stop being a teacher. Instead the characteristics of teaching (listed on the cover of the brochure) are with you always.

We hope that within the pages of the brochure you find workshops that connect with the qualities you bring to this profession or workshops that help you build on areas you want to further develop. This year we are excited about the breadth of opportunities and also the depth of the workshops (in particular the two full-day workshops). Along with the myriad of presenters who will offer their expertise we are pleased to let you know that the Unconference will be back this year. Additionally there are concert opportunities that we hope you will take advantage of with Laurie Berkner and Gemini.

As a teacher, educator and parent I want to thank each of you for the work that you do. I hope that you will make the choice to come to Whitewater so that I can thank you in person for the essential care you give young children but if you are unable to make it - please know the work you do is appreciated and we keep you in our thoughts. We appreciate that you have chosen the field of early childhood education and perhaps you have simply listened to who you are, making the choice to teach an easy one.

Thinking of you,

Robin Fox
Conference Coordinator
