About The Camp
The UW-Whitewater Summer Choir Camp is dedicated to providing junior high and high school musicians with the opportunity to have an excellent weeklong, concentrated music experience. The programis designed to challenge the student, at their personal level, with performance opportunities in large and small ensembles. Students may receive private lessons for an additional fee from our professional staff and participate in recitals and master classes.
Class offerings include Conducting, Music Theory, Keyboard, Vocal Techniques, Broadway Vocal Techniques and Jazz Vocal Techniques, enabling students to expand their musical knowledge. A balanced program of musical instruction and supervised recreational activities creates an atmosphere conducive to total learning, fun and individual growth.
Camp Living
All resident campers are housed in residence hall facilities on the UWWhitewater campus. Adult counselors, in attendance at the residence hall, will organize and supervise student activities. While roommate requests are honored whenever possible, developing new friends by having a new roommate is encouraged.
The UW-Whitewater Choir Camp and the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater will hold all students responsible for their conduct. Serious misconduct will lead to immediate dismissal from the camp. Students dismissed from the camp will not receive a refund.

The Choir Camp is open to all students who will enter grades 7-12 in the fall and recent graduates (as of June 2011).
The fee for resident campers is $350. This fee includes camp insurance, housing, all meals, a camp t-shirt, recreation, instruction, and operational costs. Commuter campers may register for $245 which includes noon and evening meals on campus.
There will be a $25 per student discount for groups of 6 or more students from the same school. Private lessons are optional and will be offered for an additional charge (see registration form on back).
Camp Staff
Robert Gehrenbeck, Camp Director
Robert Gehrenbeck is Director of Choral Activities at UWWhitewater where he conducts the UWW Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, and Women’s Chorale. He teaches conducting, directs opera and musical theatre productions at UWW, and is also the Artistic Director of the Wisconsin Chamber Choir based in Madison. Dr. Gehrenbeck holds degrees from Indiana University (D.M.), Boston University (M.M.), and Macalester College (B.A.), with additional studies in Leipzig, Germany.
Julie Cross
Mezzo-Soprano Julie Cross joined the UW-Whitewater faculty in 2005. She has performed with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Chautauqua Institution, South Beach Chamber Ensemble, and other groups throughout the U.S. She has recorded with the Albany Records and Audio for the Arts labels, and has been positively reviewed in the New York Times. Her degrees are from Oberlin Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music, and the University of Michigan, and she also studied in Italy.
Richard Servering
Richard Servering has been involved in public school education for the past 40 years and has more recently been working at the collegiate level preparing students to become effective choral music teachers. Richard is presently working with Meistersingers and Vocal Jazz ensembles at the University of Whitewater. He is also very active in the development of several community choral organizations.
Brian Nabors
is a choral instructor in the Shelby School system in Shelby, Ohio. He also directs the high school musicals known as Whippet Theatre. In addition to his work duties, Brian holds the position of Musical Director for the Mansfield Playhouse Youth Theatre. This year, Brian will also serve as a Vocal Adjudicator for the Ohio Music Educators Association Events, in addition to being a guest clinician around the state of Ohio.
Other Staff
This summer’s Choir Camp will also feature many dedicated teachers/conductors of choirs in Wisconsin’s public schools.
What to Bring
About 2–3 weeks prior to the start of camp, specific instructions for reporting to camp will be sent to participants as well as a list of what to bring.
Insurance
Each camper will be covered by a limited accident insurance policy. The cost of insurance is included in the registration fee. Precautions will be taken to prevent any accidents, and there will be camp health supervisors available. The insurance includes primary insurance coverage up to $1000, secondary coverage up to $5000 and $300 maximum dental insurance. (Insurance does not cover pre-existing injuries and is for camp-related accidents only.)
