Fall Horn Festival
The Fall Horn Festival November 3, 2007
Hurray for Hollywood!
The 2007 Fall Horn Festival features music from the "Silver Screen." Music is essential to providing an emotional landscape to movies, and for decades film composers have used the beauty of the horn's voice to stir our souls. Powerful and majestic, gloriously soaring, haunting or heavenly - the horn does it all! Come join us for "Horns Go Hollywood!"
This event will be held in the Greenhill Center of the Arts on Saturday, November 3, 2007, from 10am-5pm. The festival is for French horn players in grades 5-12. Registrants will participate in both large and small horn ensembles. The event will conclude with a concert, presented by the horn faculty and festival participants. We encourage family and friends to attend!
The $30.00 fee covers instruction, materials and a festival t-shirt. Please bring a folding music stand, labeled with your name.

The Faculty
Linda Kimballis principal horn of both the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra. Linda also has extensive chamber music experience, performing with the Wingra Woodwind Quintet, and the Whitewater Brass Quintet. She also founded and performed with the Artemis Horn Quartet for almost 20 years, so you can see why Linda considers herself to be one of the luckiest hornists in Wisconsin! In addition to playing the horn, Linda is passionate about teaching the horn and has been on the music faculty of UW-Whitewater since 1984. She started the Fall Horn Festival in 1999 to show young horn students how much fun playing the horn can be, and to offer them an opportunity to meet, rehearse and perform with other young hornists.
Patty Schlafer is a graduate of UW-Madison and has been teaching middle level music for 27 years. Her interests are varied and have led to an active professional life as both teacher and performer. Schlafer currently directs concert and jazz band at Mt. Horeb Middle School and is a facilitator for the Wisconsin Comprehensive Musicianship Project. Ms. Schlafer has completed her Master's degree in Curriculum Theory and Design where her research included a study of musical tastes of the adolescent band student. Patty has also been the guest conductor of numerous summer music camps around the state. As a horn player, she has been a member of the Madison Symphony Orchestra, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Artemis Horn Quartet and Acme Brass.
Cheryl Miracle began playing horn at age ten. She received degrees in both Music Education and Spanish from UW-Whitewater and a Master's degree in Music Education from UW-Milwaukee. She currently teaches middle and high school band in Franklin, Wisconsin, as well as teaching Milwaukee area horn students. In 2007, Cheryl received the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Fellowship Award. Cheryl also performs with the Kettle Moraine Symphony and with her horn quartet "4 Chicks with Horns."
Michael Szczys received his Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Northern Colorado, and his Master of Music degree at the University of Minnesota. While in Minnesota, Michael was a member of the Duluth Symphony and played with the Minnesota opera. He now lives in Madison where he is a member of the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra.
