About The Festival
Carnival of the Animals
The horn, as we know it, is an instrument of tonal and visual beauty. The horn, ancient ancestor of the musical instrument, might have fallen off the head of an animal! Just how did we get from lowly cow's horn to magnificent soul of the orchestra? This year we'll take a look at the prehistoric horn, and explore the relationship between our modern horn and the horns of the natural world. We'll also play music from Camille Saint- Saëns delightful composition "Carnival of the Animals".
So it's time to "grab the bull by the horns" and register for the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Fall Horn Festival! This year's festival is on Saturday, November 7, 2009.
This event will be held in the Greenhill Center of the Arts on the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus from 9:30am - 5:00pm. The festival is for French horn players in grades 5-12 and adult hornists. Registrants will participate in both large and small horn ensembles. The event will conclude with a concert, presented by the festival faculty and participants. We encourage family and friends to attend!
The $30.00 fee covers instruction, materials and festival t-shirt.
Special Assignment
- Organize a horn chamber group (small ensemble of 3, 4, 5 or 6 horns) at your school.
- Choose and rehearse an appropriate piece for your group (your band director can help you with this)
- Attend the Fall Horn Festival as a group and receive a special coaching session for your ensemble
- Your group may be chosen to perform on the Festival Finale!
Adult Horn Ensemble
Back by popular demand - the adult horn ensemble. Intended as a special event for last year's 10th anniversary, this group is being offered again by special request. If you are a band director who plays horn, a private horn instructor, or someone who would like to rekindle their relationship with the horn, this ensemble is for you. It's a great opportunity to connect with players of similar interests and abilities - you might even find a new duet partner! As an added bonus, you will have the opportunity to show 100 young horn students how to make music part of the rest of their lives!
