UW-Whitewater Alternative Styles Day
Featuring: Turtle Island String Quartet
About
October 15, 2012
The Turtle Island Quartet is one of the great pioneers of non-classical string playing. They have given hundreds of concerts all around the world and released many outstanding CDs, all of which have received rave reviews. Sheet music of their compositions constitutes many young string players’ first and/or favorite exposure to playing “alternative styles” string music.
UW-Whitewater’s Music Department is one of the leading academic institutions in the region for learning how to perform non-classical string repertoire. Bradley Townsend, UW-Whitewater Instructor of Bass and Jazz, is well known in the Midwest as an expert teacher of improvisation and numerous types of non-classical string repertoire.
Cost
Registration for the day’s events is $35, which includes admission to all events and the performance, dinner, and a UW-W rosin rag. Often people pay over $40 just to hear the TIQ perform a concert! Friends or family members who wish to attend just the evening performance pay only $18.
