Conference Highlights


  • Green Chemistry in the Curriculum – discover ways to implement green chemistry and sustainability into the chemistry curriculum, in a presentation and discussion with Dr. John Warner (President & Chief Technology Officer of the Warner Babcock Institute for Green Chemistry, Wilmington, MA) and UWW faculty. 
  • Green Chemistry in Industry – our keynote and plenary speakers, Dr. John Warner and Ms. Mary Tilton (Vice President of Plant Operations at Virent, Inc. in Madison) will address current issues relating to Green Chemistry in the chemical industry with an eye on education. Information on the speakers may be found here.
  • Technology in the Classroom – learn about new approaches to using technology for teaching, including Second Life, from UWW faculty.
  • Small Scale NMR – hear about and see the picoSpin-45 NMR spectrometer, an instrument that is 100 times smaller and 10 times less expensive than any previous NMR spectrometer with better than 100ppb resolution. Dr. John Frost, an applications chemist and spectroscopist at picoSpin LLC, Boulder, CO will present, demonstrate, and answer questions.
  • Disciplinary breakout sessions – catch up on developments at other campuses in your disciplinary area, facilitated by UWW faculty. There will also be a session for laboratory managers conducted by Ms. Marsha Goodell, our Laboratory Manager and Safety Officer.
  • Networking – meet with or catch up with chemistry faculty from other UW campuses.
  • Chemistry Department Tour- informal tours of the UWW Chemistry Department, renovated and expanded in 2006, will be available at the conclusion of the conference.

The faculty and staff of the Department of Chemistry, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, are pleased to host the 39th Annual University of Wisconsin System Chemistry Faculties Meeting, the primary venue for networking for all UW Chemistry faculty and staff. The meeting will take place in the James Connor University Center.

Conference registration is $70, which includes meeting materials,
Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast, coffee and refreshments and a Saturday luncheon. In order to accommodate attendee’s preferred dinner entrée, please register by 21 September.

Whitewater is located in southeastern Wisconsin, an hour southwest of Milwaukee, an hour southeast of Madison, and two hours northwest of Chicago.  Driving directions as well as campus maps are available here. Program Changes and Cancellation
The University reserves the right to make changes in programs and speakers or to cancel programs if enrollment criteria are not met or when conditions beyond its control prevail. Every effort will be made to contact each enrollee if a program is not held for any reason. The University’s liability is limited to the refund of the program fee.

Attendee Cancellations
A full refund will be granted upon written notification on or before 7 October. Refunds requested after that date will be assessed a $30 processing fee. No refunds will be made after 11 October. Substitutions may be made at any time.

Nanoscience Symposium

Some of you may wish to come earlier for the 3rd annual UW-Whitewater Nanoscience Symposium.

Nanoscience Education - Training Tomorrow's Workforce will be held from 9:55-3:30 on Friday, October 12, 2012 in Upham Hall at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. There will be several activities from poster sessions to workshops and a keynote presentation.
