About The Camp

UW-Whitewater will be hosting two concurrent string camps this year, a Junior Camp (grades 7-8) and a Senior Camp (grades 9-12). Activities for the two camps, except for recitals, will be held separately.

Students at the UW-W String Camps experience an intense and exciting week of immersion in string playing and musicianship. The concentrated musical instruction is tempered with supervised recreational activities in an atmosphere conducive to total learning, fun, and individual growth.

Camp Living

All resident campers are housed in residence hall facilities on the UW-Whitewater campus. Adult counselors, in attendance at the residence hall, will organize and supervise student activities. While roommate requests are honored whenever possible, developing new friends by having a new roommate is encouraged.

The UW-W String Orchestra Camp and the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater will hold all students responsible for their own conduct. Serious misconduct will lead to immediate dismissal from the camp. Students dismissed from the camp will not receive a refund.

Auditions

On the first day of camp, all campers will play a short audition consisting of scales, sight reading, and a solo of their choice. This audition will determine your orchestra placement and seating, so practice and prepare accordingly. The UW-W String Camps always draw many highly skilled young players, which makes the highest positions very challenging to earn. However, regardless of placement, all students get to play great music in an orchestra with their peers.

Lessons

Campers will have the option to choose a combination of 60-minute lesson(s) and/or 30-minute lesson(s) up to a maximum of two hours. Optional private lessons are offered at increments of 30 minutes, up to a maximum of two hours.
