String Orchestra Camp June 21-26, 2009
The UW-Whitewater Strings Camp is dedicated to providing high school and junior high musicians in grades 7-12 with the opportunity to have an excellent week-long, concentrated music experience. The program is designed to challenge students, at their personal level, with performance opportunities. A balanced program of musical instruction and supervised recreational activities creates an atmosphere conducive to total learning, fun, and individual growth.
The String Orchestra camp is designed for students entering grades 7-12 in the fall of 2009.

The UW-Whitewater Strings Camp is open to all students who will enter grades 7 through 12 in the fall of 2009. High school graduates who have graduated in June 2009 are also eligible to attend. The fee for resident campers is $315. This fee includes insurance (up to $5000 per camper, $300 dental; for injuries at camp only), housing, all meals, a camp t-shirt, recreation, instruction, a concert recording, and operational costs. This insurance pertains to both resident and commuter campers. Commuter campers may register for $220. This fee includes the noon and evening meals on campus. Private lessons are optional and will be offered for an additional charge. There will be a $35 per student discount for groups of 10 or more from the same school.

Camp Living
All resident campers are housed in residence hall facilities on the UW-Whitewater campus. Adult counselors, in attendance at the residence hall, will organize and supervise student activities. While roommate requests are honored whenever possible, developing new friends by having a new roommate is encouraged.
The UW-W String Camp and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will hold all students responsible for their conduct. Serious misconduct will lead to immediate dismissal from the camp. Students dismissed from the camp will not receive a refund.
Lessons
Optional private lessons are offered at increments of 30 minutes. You can choose a combination of 60-minute lesson(s) and/or 30-minute lesson(s). The cost is $20 for each 30 minutes of private instruction.
Faculty and Camp Staff
Benjamin Whitcomb • camp director and cello
Whitcomb is a frequent guest clinician and performer at high schools and summer camps, including the National String Workshop, and universities throughout the country. Dr. Whitcomb is Associate Professor of Cello and Music Theory at UW-Whitewater and a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and Oklahoma State University, and he has studied with Phyllis Young, George Neikrug, and Evan Tonsing.
