This session will be provided at no charge thanks to the outreach support from the UW-Whitewater School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education. Topics of discussion are listed below along with their approximate schedule. All are welcome to register to attend, and topics will be geared toward school counselors, teachers, and administrators interested in gifted and talented education. Dr. Peterson will also offer a FREE session in the evening tailored just for parents of the gifted.

All parents are welcome to attend this evening session whether or not they attend the presentations earlier in the day. Jean will present some introductory materials related to gifted kids’ development as well as the development of parents’ of gifted kids. Questions and discussion will be encouraged.

About the Presenter:
Jean Peterson is professor and director of school-counselor preparation at Purdue University. A former classroom and gifted-education teacher and now a licensed mental-health counselor, she has done considerable clinical work with gifted youth and their families. Her extensive research has focused largely on the social and emotional development of high-ability adolescents and the asset-burden paradox of giftedness. Her most recent books are Gifted at Risk: Poetic Profiles; The Essential Guide to Talking with Gifted Teens; and Models of Counseling Gifted Children,Adolescents, and Young Adults.
