Just in Time for Spring!

As our trees and shrubs begin to bud and bloom, come learn how to care for and nurture them all year round! Find out more about basic care and maintenance and how to enchance your landscape with these plants. Learn some of the tricks of the trade from a professional in one or two hands-on workshops held at UW-Whitewater this spring.

Session 1 - Trees and Shrubs: Introduction, Identification, and Other Basics

Learn how to identify different varieties of trees and shrubs, get introduced to trees and shrubs that work well in Southeastern Wisconsin landscapes, and discover unusual cultivars of common trees.

Session 2 - Trees and Shrubs: Planting, Pruning, and Pests

Learn how to care for trees, from proper planting methods, mulching, pruning, to basic pest and disease diagnosis. Learn everything you need to know to help you prepare to plant, as well as take care of mature trees in your landscape.

About the Instructor

Michael Jesiolowski

Michael graduated from the University of Illinois, with a degree in Horticulture, then went on to work at two arboreta (Berheim Arboretum in Clermont, Kentucky and The Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois). Currently, Michael is a gardener at UW-Whitewater, taking care of the Salisbury Arboretum, grounds outside Hyer, Hyland, and White Halls, as well as the new water feature in the heart of campus. Michael has a keen interest in woody plants and their cultivars. He is currently in the Wisconsin Master Gardener program and is a volunteer at Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
