Are you tired of going to two hour trainings that give you just enough information to get excited about the topic…but leave you struggling to figure out how to incorporate the ideas into your classroom and your teaching practices? UW-Whitewater is offering web based modules that support the education and training goals of the Wisconsin YoungStar Program in an in-depth and experiential way.

All learning modules utilize Desire 2 Learn(D2L) as the learning platform, requiring users to have easy access to a computer with high speed internet connection. Modules can include: assigned readings, videos, discussions and assignments/projects, all completed on the computer and submitted via the internet into the UW-Whitewater D2L site. The course instructor will review work submitted and provide feedback and grades (for students taking modules for college credit) or Registry certificates of completion (for students taking modules for continued education). Each module qualifies as Tier 3, master level training on the Wisconsin Registry.

Child Driven Curriculum from Design to Documentation

This web based course will be presented as four separate and distinct modules that can be taken in full and in sequence for three university credits. Or, students can elect to take one to four modules on a non-credit basis, for continuing education hours. Each module will provide 30 hours of continuing education ( if CEU’s are needed, the student must make this request of the instructor).

The modules included in this course include:
-Integrated Curriculum Models (January 18 – 28th, 2011)
-Observation based Assessment (January 31 – February 11th, 2011)
-Using WMELS as a Planning Tool (February 14 – 25th, 2011)
-Child Portfolios and Documentation (February 28 – March 11th, 2011)

Curriculum includes not only what children learn, but how they learn. In early childhood education, the focus should be on the how. The modules included in this class will help early childhood professionals to become more confident and intentional in planning experiences for young children that foster learning across domains and can be observed and documented for reflection and assessment purposes.
