Whitewater Youth Orchestra
About the Youth Orchestra
UW-Whitewater is delighted to announce that it is re-starting its youth orchestra program, as an extension of the String Academy. It will be open to middle school, jr. high, and high school students. Initially, the orchestras will be strings only, but we plan to add woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments in future years. The two orchestras in the program will each present one concert per semester. Rehearsals will take place on Monday afternoons throughout the school year. Rehearsal dates include:
- October 6 - November 17
- December 1 - December 15
- January 12 - March 9
- March 30 - May 11
Meeting Times
Youth Orchestra (grades 9-12)
Philharmonia (grades 6-10)
*Both groups rehearse on Mondays from 4:45-7:00
Fees
Tuition is $280 per school year. Some need-based scholarships are available. Contact Benjamin Whitcomb at whitcomb@uww.edu to apply.

Auditions
Auditions will be held beginning on June 6 and 7. The coordinator will contact you to set up an audition time upon receipt of your registration. Audition requirements are as follows:
Youth Symphony
- A prepared solo for your instrument demonstrating the best of your abilities, preferably a work equivalent in difficulty to the "Class A" list for WSMA Solos.
- All major and minor (melodic and harmonic) scales, at least one octave (you are encouraged to play additional octaves if you are able).
- Sight reading.
Philharmonia
- A prepared solo for your instrument demonstrating the best of your abilities.
- The following major scales: C, G, D, A, F, Bb, Eb, plus a minor scale (melodic and harmonic) of your choice, at least one octave, from memory. You are encouraged to play additional octaves if you are able.
- Sight reading.
If you have a conflict with the audition dates or times, we will accept a recorded audition via tape or CD.
