Center for Students with Disabilities

Adaptive Transportation

Adaptive Transportation Services began in the fall of 1971 as a service for UW-Whitewater students with mobility impairments. The service is provided through the university as a fee-based service. Students who are consumers of vocational rehabilitation services may request assistance with funding the cost of this service as part of their plan for employment. Students who do not have third-party funding will be required to pay for the service in full. The primary goal of Adaptive Transportation services is to provide safe and efficient service to our student riders. We offer both on- and off-campus rides with a variety of scheduling options.

To Receive Services

  1. Students must be determined eligible for adaptive transportation services through the Center for Students with Disabilities.
  2. Upon eligibility determination, riders will fill out a contract with their Disability Services Coordinator.
  3. It's the riders' responsibility to make arrangements with his or her funding agency ( if applicable) about using and pay for transportation semester.
  4. Riders are required to read all policies and return a signed contract, rider policy agreement, and provide a copy of their academic schedule.

Contract Options

On-campus: Contracts include transportation services Monday-Friday during standard hours of operation. To and from all academic related activities (i.e. class, tutoring, library, etc.).

Off-campus: Contracts offer rides within Whitewater boundaries during specific hours of operation (i.e. Walmart, restaurant, etc.).

Winter Only: Contracts provide transportation service from the Monday two weeks prior to Thanksgiving break through the Friday prior to Spring Break. Fall and Spring semester "winter only" contracts are billed separately and differ in price from full semester contracts.

CSD Adaptive Transportation Policy

CSD Adaptive Transportation (Warhawk Wheels) is designed to provide accessible on-campus transportation for students with disabilities. Warhawk Wheels may be able to provide transportation for field placements that are a part of your academic program. This is decided on a case-by-case basis and is dependent on van availability, location of field placement, and timeliness of request.

Because the placements extend beyond the semester, Warhawk Wheels cannot accept any contracts for student teaching.

If you think you might need transportation assistance, we recommend you start the process for securing your field placement at least a semester in advance. As soon as you have any information regarding your transportation needs for field placement, follow these steps:

  • Contact the Transportation Coordinator transcsd@uww.edu
    • Include dates and times of rides needed
    • Location of placement
