The Department of Psychology in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in an area of psychological science beginning August 2018. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate courses in the BA/BS in psychology degree and general education curriculum, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and may include cognitive science, comparative cognition, perception, learning and conditioning and/or biological bases of behavior.
The successful candidate will be able to develop and teach undergraduate courses including psychology, research methods, statistics, upper level experimental psychology, and courses in the general education curriculum. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students, results in publications and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community. The department is especially interested in candidates who have a strong commitment and specialized training in pedagogical approaches that are effective for engaging under-represented and first-generation undergraduate students.
Ph.D. in an area of psychological science is required. ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date of August 22, 2018. Demonstrated record of, or evident potential for successful teaching, with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate and graduate students, is essential. Clear evidence of scholarly potential, including maintaining a strong program of research that involves undergraduate students in meaningful ways, is required, along with commitment to working with diverse populations and serving as an active member of the university community. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience.
Full-Time teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate psychology courses such as research methods, statistics, upper-level experimental psychology, and courses in the general education curriculum. Research expectations include maintaining an active program of research with opportunities for undergraduate involvement. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities may include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community and/or professional organizations as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings. Faculty may also elect to teach the New Student Seminar, lead a University Learning Community, or participate in other programs geared toward improving student success.
