ATTENTION:

The Department of Social Work in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of clinical social work beginning August 2019. This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in social work practice, research, and service to the university and community. Research expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and may include mental health, addictions, advanced social work practice and/or clinical social work or related fields.

JOB DETAILS:

  • The successful candidate will be able to teach social work practice courses and other courses across the curriculum as part of the undergraduate and graduate social work programs.
  • The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that engages undergraduate and graduate students, results in publications, and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society.
  • The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of diversity and inclusion as a member of the university community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. or DSW in Social Work
  • At least 2 years post-MSW social work practice
  • State of Wisconsin Licensure (LCSW) or the eligibility for the licensure (LCSW) is desired. (ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by the contract start date in August 2019; if not, they will be hired on a one-year contract with the understanding that their degree will be completed before January 2020 in advance of their first scheduled review)

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Full-Time teaching responsibilities include social work practice courses.
  2. Research expectations include publications and/or conference presentations. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities.
  3. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest.
  4. Faculty at UW-W may be required to teach online and/or in a hybrid format, or courses in the evenings or on weekends.
  5. Faculty may also elect to teach New Student Seminar or University Learning Communities, or participate in other programs geared toward improving student success.
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

UW-Whitewater has a strong and growing social work program (https://www.uww.edu/cls/departments/social-work). Our baccalaureate social work program, accredited since 1974, is known for strong student-faculty interaction and dynamic students. Our masters in social work program started in 2018 and is currently in candidacy status. The Social Work Department is engaged with social service agencies, the surrounding area, and professional organizations.
