ATTENTION:

The Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching (HPERC) at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater invites applications for a Lecturer in Recreation and Sport Management, beginning August 23, 2019.

JOB DETAILS:

Primary responsibilities involve teaching, advising students, and assisting with supervision of student internships. Teaching responsibilities may include Recreation/Sport for Special Populations, Introduction to Recreation/Sport Management, Recreation/Sport Programming, Recreation/Sport Leadership, Special Events Management, Commercial and Entrepreneurial Recreation, Management of Campus Recreation and Sports, and Planning, Design and Management of Recreation Facilities. There will also be the opportunity to work with department faculty in course development and design.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Recreation Management, Sport Management, or a related field by date of appointment
Desired Qualifications:
  • University teaching experience
  • Experience with undergraduate student advisement, student internships, and curriculum development
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:

All instructional staff at the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater may be required to teach online and/or hybrid classes, evening and/or weekend classes, and provide service to the university and local community in a variety of modalities, including leading Learning Communities, mentoring students, and providing professional development opportunities for colleagues, schools and community groups. Interdisciplinary perspective, experience working with diverse populations, and a commitment to work with non-traditional students are essential to this position.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching offers undergraduate and graduate programs to prepare professionals in Health, Human Performance and Recreation; and undergraduate and graduate programs to prepare teachers and coaches in Health, Human Performance, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching. The Department enrolls more than 500 undergraduate majors between these two programs. The Department also enrolls more than 470 undergraduate minors in five programs and approximately 30 graduate students in two programs. The faculty and academic staff in HPERC are dedicated to providing high quality education for students committed to professional careers in exercise science, health promotion, recreation, strength & conditioning, sport management, and coaching education.
