ATTENTION:

The Department of Languages and Literatures in the College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks an Instructor of German beginning January 2020. This is a part-time position for a dynamic, versatile, and innovative language instructor dedicated to teaching beginning through advanced undergraduate level courses.
    
JOB DETAILS:

The University of Wisconsin System is engaged in a Title and Total Compensation (TTC) project to redesign job titles and compensation structures. The successful candidate will be able to teach language, phonetics/linguistics, and literature courses as part of the undergraduate German program. For Spring 2020, the course load is one section of German 310: German Phonetics, meeting TR from 9:30 to 10:45am. This course is currently scheduled as face-to-face, but a hybrid offering is possible. We anticipate that this position will be renewed for the 2020-2021 academic year, with flexible scheduling options.
    
QUALIFICATIONS:

A Ph.D. or ABD in German Language and Culture is preferred, but Master’s degree recipients are also encouraged to apply. The ability to teach a wide range of courses in German is highly desirable; native or near-native proficiency in German is expected. We are looking for a candidate with demonstrated commitment to teaching with an emphasis on promoting the success of undergraduate students and a commitment to working with diverse populations.

  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills.
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Part-time teaching responsibilities include a 6-hour course load each year (1 class per semester), potentially with additional offerings in the future. There are no research or service expectations for this position.
    
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The UW-Whitewater Department of Languages and Literatures, the largest department within the College of Letters and Sciences, has over 60 faculty and instructional academic staff members. The Department houses four English program emphases as well as majors and minors in French, German, and Spanish; courses in American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese are also offered.
