ATTENTION:

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater College of Arts and Communication is seeking a full-time (academic year), tenure-track Health Communication faculty member who will have a 100 percent appointment in the Communication Department.

JOB DETAILS:

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in Health Communication including, but not limited to, Introduction to Health Communication, Applied Communication in Health and Wellness, Health Message Advocacy and Analysis, Health Advocacy & Public Policy, and Health Literacy. Other course areas may be assigned based on the candidate’s individual skill areas. Preference will be given to candidates who also demonstrate the ability to teach cross-cultural communication.

The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester in the department’s undergraduate and graduate programs, have opportunities to contribute to curricular revision to reflect the latest trends in the field, as well as propose and teach health communication courses in areas of the candidate’s expertise. Excellence in teaching, a commitment to a health communication research agenda, and a willingness to participate in academic advising and other university service are expected. The department embraces the use of diverse methodologies and a wide range of topics in research. Significant service activity within the department, college, and university is required. QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in Communication or related field (ABD will be considered)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and teach health communication courses
  • Demonstrated potential to pursue a rigorous program of research
Desired Qualifications:
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Professional experience in the area of health communication
  • Ability to teach Cross-Cultural Communication
  • Prior grant writing experience
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary research teams
  • Willingness to be an assistant advisor with the CHIP (Communicating Health in Practice) student organization
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

The Department of Communication is the largest department in the College of Arts and Communication and one of the largest at the University. The department serves more than 600 students majoring in one of seven emphases: Advertising, Broadcast/Print/Web Journalism, Corporate and Health Communication, Electronic Media, International Journalism, Media Arts and Game Development, and Public Relations. The department’s graduate program serves a diverse population of recent undergraduates and returning professionals.
