ATTENTION:

The Instructional, Communication and Information Technology (ICIT) Department seeks an AVCT Lead Support Technician.


JOB DETAILS:

The AVCT Lead Support Technician’s primary responsibility will be to work with the Instructional Facilities Project Manager and project stakeholders to design and plan classroom and instructional lab upgrade projects at UW-Whitewater. He/she will ensure that instructional AV technology meets current campus standards while maintaining and completing upgrades as needed. In addition, this position will train manage the AVCT Technician(s) and student technicians to accurately diagnose and resolve issues reported through the campus Technology Support Center Helpdesk. The AVCT Lead Support Technician will report to the Instructional Facilities Project Manager.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in working with AV equipment including data projectors, sound systems, and other peripherals, and their interface to computers and networked systems.
  • Experience with Crestron installation and maintenance.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high degree initiative to learn new things, adaptability, and ability to work both collaboratively and independently to achieve goals.
  • Familiarity with Crestron programming. Ability to create, modify, and deploy programming is highly desired.
  • Ability to read, create, and modify drawings and schematics, preferably in AutoCAD.
  • Ability to train and manage incoming technicians or students workers.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment problems and determine appropriate resolutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with customers, management, and peers.
  • Ability to maintain thorough project documentation using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to climb ladders and lift at least 75 pounds.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.

Highly Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Crestron Training/Certifications such as Creston 101, Toolbox, CTI-P101, CTI-P102, CTI-P103.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

70% - Project Implementation (Equipment Specification, Installation and Configuration)

  • Act as AVCT Technician Team Lead. Train and guide AVCT Technicians and student workers.
  • Participate in the consultative process for campus technology upgrades. Recommend necessary technology based on customer objectives and campus wide initiatives.
  • Assist iCIT and FP&M (Facilities Planning and Management) staff in the planning of classroom remodeling projects.
  • Assist in creation of detailed project documentation and estimates for various campus projects.
  • Create classroom technology design drawings for projects, preferably in AutoCAD. Drawings include system schematics and room layouts (elevations, locations, necessary electrical and cabling needs).
  • Specify, install, configure, and troubleshoot lab and classroom technology systems and software.
  • Maintain and update existing Crestron programing code currently deployed on campus. Ensure programming is uniform across newly upgraded rooms and aligns with campus programming standards.
  • Assist in tracking of in-scope work provided by vendors.
  • Work with vendors to obtain equipment quotes and assist in purchasing equipment.
  • Maintain procurement card, track and record all purchases. Manage Crestron A+ Rewards by tracking all purchases.
  • Ensure all equipment, materials, and labor are accurately charged to the correct project through the campus Work Order system – TMA management system.

15% - Equipment Maintenance and Ongoing Support

  • Provide appropriate documentation and training for users to enable effective use of technology in lab and classroom facilities. Provide onsite training as requested.
  • Monitor lab and classroom AV related tickets that are reported through HP Service Manager (HPSM). Act as a back-up to Support Technicians.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving instructional technology problems in labs and classrooms.
  • Assist in providing knowledgebase information for iCIT Tech Support Center.
  • Monitor “service level agreements” to ensure appropriate levels of service are provided.
  • Follow a regular maintenance/replacement schedule for AV equipment in the campus instructional facilities and carry out the scheduled tasks. 
  • Work with the Network Operations Center (NOC) to install Digital Signage on campus.

15% - Professional Skills and Teamwork

  • Develop and implement standards and procedures to standardize instructional technology across campus.
  • Participate in customer consultations and system design meetings to assist in developing objectives and requirements of new systems or maintenance of existing systems.
  • Report equipment concerns or issues to management, and make recommendations for repair or replacement of classroom technology.
  • Work cooperatively with Facilities, Planning and Management (FP&M) staff and other University personnel on projects with joint responsibilities.
  • Stay abreast of the changing standards and technologies.
  • Influence the workplace in a positive manner and participate in effective team-building.
  • Participate in other iCIT projects as assigned.
  • Will be an active participant in the following of safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
