ATTENTION:

The Instructional, Communication, and Informational Technology (iCIT) Department seeks a Teaching, Learning, and Technology Consultant.

JOB DETAILS:


This position reports directly to the Director of Learning Technology.

The major responsibility of this position is to be a champion for pedagogically sound and effective use of technology for instruction through faculty training and development, instructional support, and administration of key services. Primary activities include leading campus-wide online and blended teaching faculty development efforts, supporting instructors in the pedagogically sound use of technology in their courses to increase student success, and administering the university’s online quality assurance program (currently Quality Matters).

The person in this position will also be responsible for assisting with projects related to campus-wide initiatives that support teaching, learning, technology, and student success. This position contributes to an environment of innovation and collaboration, and has a genuine interest in effectively communicating principles of effective instruction to instructors with a wide-range of technical skills. To better understand the needs of instructors and the campus as it relates to teaching, learning, and technology, this person is expected to teach a course or collaborate with another instructor to contribute to a course module every year.

A successful candidate must have effective communication (e.g., listening, written, oral) skills and have a passion for assisting instructors in creating rich, meaningful learning experiences for their students.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Earned Master's Degree
  2. Teaching experience at the college level
  3. Experience consulting with instructors and/or programs on online/blended course design and learning technologies (e.g., learning management systems, student response systems, rich digital content, ePortfolios, etc.)
Highly Desired Qualifications:
  1. Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree
  2. Experience with online and blended teaching professional development in higher education
  3. Ability to work with a population that has a diverse technology skill set and create effective experiences (e.g., documentation, consultations, workshops, training programs, etc.) that serve all participants.
  4. Experience in applying Quality Matters online/blended course design principles
  5. Knowledge of educational assessment and evaluation methods.
  6. Effective oral and written communication skills
  7. Demonstrated passion for creating rich, meaningful learning experiences for students
RESPONSIBILITIES:

40% A Faculty Training and Development


A1. Provide strategic vision and leadership for online and blended faculty development, as well as professional development for learning technologies.

A2. Lead the UW-Whitewater Institute for Online and Blended Teaching.

A3. Develop and support training programs and events regarding the pedagogically sound use of technology for instructional purposes.

A4. Coordinate and collaborate with campus support units to provide workshops on topics that enable instructors with tools to enhance student success.

A5. Work with faculty and LTC staff to assess the value and impact of instructional technology on instruction.

A6. Develop and lead book groups and learning communities focused on learning technology.

25% B Instructional Support


B1. Provide consultation to instructors and programs on pedagogically sound design and use of technology in teaching.

B2. Assist instructors in the appropriate selection, development, and use of technology tools to enhance teaching in all modes.

B3. Assist faculty on course redesign strategies from traditional classroom to online and blended formats, as well as course design for online/blended formats, with the goal to achieve recognized quality assurance standards.

B4. Support faculty in the pedagogically sound use of the campus Learning Management System.

25% C Administration


C1. Lead and administer the university’s online course quality assurance program (currently Quality Matters) by serving as the institutional representative. This includes collaborating with the UW System, developing Quality Matters training programs, assisting with Quality Matters course reviews, and conducting faculty consultations to achieve Quality Matters standards.

C2. Assist in the development of strategies, resources and appropriate documentation for the pedagogically sound use of technologies supported by the LTC.

5% D Professional Development


D1. Maintain expert knowledge and awareness of trends, methods, and technological advances in the industry and profession.

D2. Attend meetings, conferences, and events (both in person and virtual) relevant to the position.

D3. Disseminate information from professional development activities to others in the LTC, as well as across UWW and the UW system as applicable.

D4. Teach or contribute to the teaching of academic courses or course modules, as an instructor, co-instructor, part of the teaching team, or in another instructional role.

5% E Other Responsibilities


E1. Assist with projects that align with campus initiatives related to teaching and learning, as necessary.

E2. Will be an active participant in the following of safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills

E3. Attend LTC and ICIT meetings and events, as requested.

E4. Complete other duties as assigned.
