ATTENTION:

The College of Arts and Communication at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Director of the Young Auditorium, a premier Performing Arts Cultural Center in Southern Wisconsin.

JOB DETAILS:

The auditorium director is charged with upholding the instructional, public service, and cultural mission of the university by making the Young Auditorium a cultural and educational center for the campus and region. This is a Non-Instructional Academic Staff position and will report to the Dean of the College of Arts and Communication. The College of Arts and Communication seeks a candidate who is committed to campus efforts to enhance diversity and equity, and has the ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. The auditorium director has overall responsibility for effective and efficient operation, administration, and utilization of the auditorium. The auditorium director will work with administrative, technical, clerical, and volunteer staff; a variety of advisory committees, including the Cultural Affairs Committee and the Young Auditorium Advisory Committee; and all user groups, to provide for successful utilization of the facility

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MBA, MA or doctorate in a related field
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in programming and auditorium management
Desired Qualifications:
  • A proven track record in executive leadership, management, operations, budgeting, and financial administration
  • Preferred experience in a University setting
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations, including necessary training and drills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Management
  1. Consult with appropriate staff and committees to work toward fulfillment of the Young Auditorium mission and vision
  2. Work with the appropriate staff and committees to establish and implement operating and utilization policies of Young Auditorium. www.uww.edu/youngauditorium/about.
Programming and Facilities Usage
  1. Provide leadership in the creation and implementation of artistic policy of the programs presented in the Young Auditorium
  2. Oversee general facility scheduling and management
  3. Work with all user groups, including but not limited to: the Departments of Music, Theatre/Dance, Communication, Art and Design, and MAGD program; Continuing Education, the Academic Departments of the University, and UW-W student groups to ensure the effective utilization of the facility for their activities
  4. Collaborate with various Academic Coordinators on curricular connections to programs
  5. Diversify the usage of this multipurpose facility
  6. Develop strategies to cultivate and diversify new audience and performance opportunities
Financial
  1. Negotiate all contracts for programs and events presented in the Young Auditorium, including rental facilities usage in accordance with the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater policies
  2. Ensure financial integrity of the Young Auditorium through general oversight of business operations and solid management decisions; develop and maintain sound financial practices
  3. Assess current and future resource needs in order to coordinate fundraising efforts to support programmatic needs and expansion
  4. Nurture growth of membership program and relationships with current and potential sponsors
  5. Create and submit annual report on the financial state of affairs and progress towards meeting Young Auditorium goals
Community Engagement
  1. Serve as an effective spokesperson for the organization by promoting awareness of Young Auditorium’s mission
  2. Inspire and motivate a wide range of people to support the organization and its work
  3. Seek opportunities for strategic alliances and partnerships to help further Young Auditorium’s mission
Staff Development and Supervision
  1. Develop staffing plans
  2. Supervise, guide, manage, and motivate staff or provide for such leadership
  3. Create and encourage professional growth and development opportunities
  4. Work closely with and supervise the Assistant Director/ Director of Education and Outreach to develop programming for future seasons, and ensure growth of community engagement programs
  5. Supervise the following team members of the Young Auditorium staff: Marketing Specialist, Technical Director and Audience Services Coordinator 
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

Young Auditorium serves as a presenting organization for the performing arts and as an educational and cultural center enriching the lives of the campus and regional communities. Since 1993, Young Auditorium has provided all citizens of southeastern Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater campus the experience of a variety of events, including professional performing artists, Continuing Education offerings, lectures, student performances, conferences, and community activities. This commitment reflects artistic excellence, student life enhancement, cultural growth and diversity. The 1,350 seat award-winning venue presents a seasonal program of diverse touring performing artists that is strongly supported by the local and campus community. The Auditorium also presents the successful Horizons School Matinee Series, which serves the region’s elementary, middle and high school students; we are one of five Kennedy Center Partners in Education sites in the state of Wisconsin. The auditorium supports and contributes to academic programming and reports to the College of Arts and Communication; the auditorium serves campus and community constituents.
