ATTENTION:

The Academic Advising & Exploration Center at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater seeks a Coordinator, Pathway for Success (Student Services Program Manager II).

JOB DETAILS:

Responsibilities include advising first-year Pathway for Success students with program planning, general course selection and registration. Other related responsibilities include monitoring students’ progression through schedule checks, mid-term progress reports and student development/community development events. Coordinator will provide supervision to the Pathway for Success Office and coordinate all facets of the program. Coordinator will participate in Plan-It Purple (PIP) Days and Warhawk Premiere Days. The coordinator has the option to teach one section of the New Student Seminar and one section of Service Learning & Leadership in addition to other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required (by the start date)
  • Three years of academic advising or similar experience in a higher education setting (professional advising preferred)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience developing and administering support programming for students
  • Demonstrated creative use of technology
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft or similar Student Information System highly preferred
  • Budgetary experience preferred
  • Supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Commitment to a student-centered approach with the ability to work with a diverse population
  • Demonstration of excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Advise Pathway for Success students
    • Supervise satellite advising office for Pathway for Success students
    • Scheduling office hours
    • Equipment and supplies
    • Recruit/train/supervise 6 Path Leaders (student employees)
    • Recruit/train/supervise 1 Graduate Assistant
    • Coordinate 3 phone calling campaigns (Welcome, Math Placement Test, PIP)
  2. Meet with the Admissions Office to determine admission decisions for incoming Pathway for Success students
  3. Oversee and organize Family Open House for prospective Pathway for Success students
  4. Coordinate with Department Chairs, Registrar’s Office, First Year Experience & Intercollegiate Athletics to recruit faculty, set classes, pre-register students and accommodate schedule restrictions
  5. Collaborate with Academic Support Services to provide course information needed to establish Supplemental Instruction (SI) as well as follow-up with students attending less than 70% of required SI sessions
  6. Plan all aspects of faculty updates and student recognition events each semester
  7. Create/monitor all communications to Pathway for Success students & faculty
    • In-class visits and wellness checks
    • Winter and Summer course schedule rechecks
    • Faculty mid-term progress reports and student concerns/alerts
    • Publications: Pathway for Success informational brochure, welcome letter, PIP letter, webpage, and social media (Facebook)
  8. Provide support for students in previous cohorts including walk-in supplemental advising, Associate Degree checks, and degree recognition honors
  9. Chair and provide reports to Pathway for Success Committee 3-4 times each semester
  10. Mentor Pathway for Success Academic Advisor (professional staff)
    • Coordinate roles, duties, and responsibilities between Pathway for Success professional staff
    • Train and facilitate professional development and understanding of Pathway for Success program coordination
    • Assume traditional mentor role within AAEC departmental policy
  11. Manage Pathway for Success budget
    • Responsible for AAEC 102 budget account (report to AAEC director)
