ATTENTION:

The College of Business and Economics Online Education Technology Support Center at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks an Instructional Design Specialist (Sr. Information Processing Consultant).

JOB DETAILS:

This position reports directly to the Assistant Dean in the College of Business and Economics responsible for distance education. The key responsibilities of this position are to be a champion for pedagogically sound and effective use of technology for instruction, and be forward-looking and strategically minded regarding the implementation of future learning technologies. Additionally, this position will be responsible for managing the design and development of online/hybrid courses, interactive tutorials and other activities that support and enhance faculty/staff instructional activities. The Instructional Designer will be part of a team that will collaborate with faculty/staff to utilize effectively educational technologies and online learning tools in support of academic curricular development that enhances instructional delivery, promotes active learning, refines critical thinking, and increases student success.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualification(s):

  • Degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, related academic discipline OR three years of full-time, professional instructional design experience
Desired Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated mastery of applying instructional design principles, online/hybrid pedagogy, learning theory, and instructional technologies that influence learning design and learning environments
  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, or related academic discipline
  • Two years of experience working at higher education institutions as an instructional designer, designing and developing online/hybrid courses and programs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience working with web-conferencing, screen-casting, and other multimedia technologies.
  • Experience with a learning management system
  • Experience using an established rubric (such as Quality Matters) to evaluate online/hybrid courses
  • Strong Canvas experience
  • Experience evaluating instructional technologies
  • Experience with project management
  • Experience working in diverse teams and managing expectations
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Instructional Design
  1. Support all aspects of the instructional design process for online/hybrid courses including faculty/staff training, course design and development, course launch, ensuring course quality through adherence to college standards, and participation in the course continuous improvement process.
  2. Collaborate with faculty/staff and other instructional design staff to design and develop interactive, engaging and effective learning experiences for online/hybrid courses and programs.
  3. Adhere to and advance university standards and procedures for the creation of quality educational products.
  4. Organize, develop, and maintain course resources used for faculty/staff and online/hybrid course development.
  5. Maintain program and course development milestones and timeline.
  6. Ensure consistent quality standards, look and feel, template design, and user experience across programs and courses.
Instructional Technology
  1. Serve as an educational technology resource for the College through research, testing, development of training materials, training faculty/staff and providing support for instructional technology tools.
  2. Conduct research on pedagogy and technology related to online/hybrid teaching and learning.
  3. Evaluate new instructional software and technologies for their possible application to programs and courses.
  4. Conduct pilots to evaluate new pedagogical strategies and instructional software and technologies for online/hybrid courses
Faculty/staff Training and Development
  1. Provide faculty/staff training of the LMS and other instructional technologies.
  2. Collaborate with program coordinators, department chairs, faculty/staff, other instructional designers, media specialists, and other technical resources to provide current, relevant and pedagogically sound solutions for curriculum delivery.
  3. Stay current with the latest in pedagogical practices, cognitive/learning science, and design tools and methods.
  4. Create training videos and other media using variety of technologies.
  5. Explain complex ideas to variety of audiences and skill levels.
Project Management
  1. Organize regular and ad-hoc meetings as needed to ensure efficient project lifecycle management for all active projects.
  2. Communicate progress and milestone achievement to all stakeholders.
  3. Be available to online/hybrid faculty/staff to answer questions and assist with issues.
Quality Leadership
  1. Work collaboratively with the campus centralized IT team (ICIT) and other campus colleagues on common initiatives with a focus on increasing knowledge sharing and collaboration
  2. Provide direction for student employees to assist faculty/staff with online/hybrid technology needs.
  3. Participate in the design, development, and implementation of a continuous quality improvement strategy for online/hybrid courses.
  4. Support all college online/hybrid course needs including undergraduate and graduate courses delivered in online/hybrid format.
  5. Utilize communication skills to maintain positive interactions while accomplishing work goals and meeting deadlines.
  6. Maintain deep knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in educational technologies and the use of those technology resources.
  7. Review and evaluate support services for online/hybrid students and make recommendations for improvements.
  8. Work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean.
