ATTENTION:

The Office of the PreCollege Programs within the Student Diversity, Engagement and Success department at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks an Associate Director (Outreach Program Manager I)

JOB DETAILS:

The Associate Director for the Office of PreCollege Programs supports program supervision, programming, and reporting. This position will work with staff to understand student needs, coordinate delivery of services to meet these needs, and provide ongoing support as needed to meet program goals. The person in this position will hold a key role in data management and reporting, developing and maintaining collaborations with campus and community partners, as well as developing curriculum for both academic year and summer programming. The person in this position is able to maintain a sense of humor, demonstrate high levels of creativity and trust, and show dedication to student success for all PreCollege participants. This full-time position is contingent upon grant funding and is currently funded through 2022 at which time the grant will be considered for renewal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, education, student personnel, psychology, sociology, or related fields
  • 1 year full-time professional experience in the area of student support programming and administration
  • Experience in staff supervision, project coordination, database management & budget development
  • Experience working with low-income, academically disadvantaged and potential first-generation college students by applying student developmental theory
Desired Qualifications:
  • A background similar to that of the project participants
  • Five years full time administrative experience in a higher education setting or three years full time of increasingly responsible experience with TRIO programs and/or Federal/State grant programs, or student services work at the college level
  • Experience in federal reporting and policy development
  • Experience in programs involving education and/or counseling of youth
  • Knowledge and experience with TRIO Programs
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance and US Department of Education policies
  • Grant writing experience
  • Ability to write academic camp curriculum
  • Demonstrated capability to supervise project personnel
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work occasional nights/weekends and extended summer hours
  • Ability to occasionally travel to target schools in Milwaukee and Racine
  • Strong background in collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data to varying audience
  • Good organizational skills with a high degree initiative to learn new things, adaptability, and ability to work both collaboratively and independently to achieve goals
  • Experience providing guidance to staff in order to achieve organizational goals
  • Experience leading workshops, programs, or units within an organization
  • Ability to develop academic camp and advising curriculum
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
  • Valid driver’s license
RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. Supervision
  1. Supervise FTE, Graduate Coordinators, and undergraduate student staff
  2. Provide training and oversight for academic advising processes including educational opportunities and financial aid policies
B. Program Development and Facilitation
  1. Work closely with PreCollege Director to meet program goals and outcomes
  2. Support Saturday College programming and Summer Academic Camps
  3. Coordinate, attend, and facilitate student development workshops
  4. Oversees the development and implementation of strategies for program publicity, determination of participant eligibility, methods of recruitment, documentation, and follow-up services
C. Outreach
  1. Oversee academic year advising process including training of advisors and recruiting for program
  2. Maintain relationships with K-12 teachers and guidance counselors at target schools
  3. Collaborate with other departments on campus to maintain educational and administrative supports for program students
  4. Serve as point person for campus visits supported by PreCollege Programs
  5. Coordinate school fair visitations
  6. Represents the program as a speaker/presenter in high schools, service clubs, community events, and other activities of a similar nature
D. Data Management and Reporting
  1. Maintain database for federal, state, and campus reporting
  2. Compilation, analysis, and submission of federal, state, and campus reporting
  3. As a member of a team, evaluate applicants to the program and support tracking process
E. Curriculum Development
  1. Provides leadership for the design, implementation, and evaluation of instruction, tutoring, cultural/recreational activities, and residential and non-residential summer components for program participants.
  2. Develop innovative curriculum for Upward Bound academic year advising sessions
  3. Develop and coordinate summer academic camp curriculum through creative lesson plans
F. Other
  1. Assist Director with grant development
  2. Area technology coordinator related to hardware, webpage development, networking sites, etc.
  3. Participate in professional development related to program services
  4. Assume other duties as assigned by Director of the Office of PreCollege Programs
