ATTENTION:

The Department of Center for Students with Disabilities at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a Transition Outreach Specialist (Associate Student Services Coordinator) .
    
JOB DETAILS:

The Transition Outreach Specialist for Recruitment of Students with Disabilities assists prospective students in navigating the college selection process. This is a 12-month, full-time position that reports to the Director or Associate Director of the Center for Students with Disabilities, and will be responsible for recruiting, admitting and enrolling a talented and diverse student body. This position will establish and maintain relationships with prospective students, parents, and high school counselors, special education case managers, and will work with students to assist with applying to both the university and the Center for Students with Disabilities for their region.  This position is responsible for continuing, developing and implementing targeted outreach efforts to students with disabilities. The individual will present information to prospective students during scheduled daily visit presentations and regional transition fairs, will assist during campus open house events, coordinate an annual conference, and will perform other duties as assigned by the director or designee. Domestic travel is required, especially during the fall and spring recruitment seasons.
    
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One-year experience in disability services, admissions, recruitment, higher education, or related field
  • Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Strong organizational and event planning skills
  • Professional experience working with students and/or individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Fluency in Spanish
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong written communication and public speaking skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Admissions staff on behalf of students with disabilities
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, and faculty
  • Willingness and ability to be an active participant in following applicable safety rules and regulations including necessary training and drills
  • Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds
   
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Market, recruit and provide customer support to new freshman prospects and applicants through face-to-face interactions, small and large group presentations, educational fairs, telephone and email inquiries, and high school visits. This includes extensive travel primarily in Wisconsin and surrounding regions.
  2. Establish working relationships with high school counselors, case managers, school nurses, other community stakeholders, and special services administrators in the assigned regions.
  3. Coordinate prospective student programming to further the commitment to students with disabilities at UWW.
  4. Create and implement effective communication strategies with school districts, Special Educators, Children’s Hospitals, DVR counselors, 2 year and Technical Colleges
  5. Use data and current trends to strategically market to and recruit high school students with disabilities within designated region.
  6. Review applications and make collaborative admission decisions.
  7. Travel to and recruit students at college fairs, district events and high schools in assigned territories.
  8. Assist and monitor student application processing and data entry.
  9. Work with the Rock County Campus on events and activities to increase enrollment.
  10. Coordinate Opening Horizons Conference for students with disabilities in the spring.
  11. Work with the Office of Admission to help coordinate schools to visit campus each fall for targeted population.
  12. Field telephone, email inquiries from potential students, school k12 staff, community stakeholders and families, and deliver informational presentations to students who come to campus for a tour.
  13. Meet with prospective students and their parents during campus visits.
  14. Be familiar with university policies and procedures, especially Admissions, Housing, Financial Aid, and First-Year Experience, to communicate effectively with prospects.
  15. Participate in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops when appropriate.
  16. Additional duties as prescribed by the Director or designee of CSD.
  17. Other duties as assigned.
