Position: Custodian Lead
This position is responsible for providing custodial leadwork for Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) in the academic buildings. The Custodian Lead guides the work of a crew of Custodians, limited term employees (LTE’s) and student workers. The incumbent works under the direction of a Custodial Supervisor. The leadworker assists the Custodial Supervisor in developing custodial objectives designed to meet the needs of building occupants and the tasks required to achieve these objectives.
The Custodian Lead must practice exemplary behavior when working with customers and fellow staff members. The person holding this position must possess a valid driver's license and qualify for state vehicle operation. The position is designated at a Level 1 for risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
55% A.Provide leadwork, instruction and administrative support for FP&M Zone custodial crew.
A1. Establish and maintain good working relationships with zone personnel and with all other persons using zone buildings.
A2. Coordinate, plan and assign routine work to be performed within zone buildings and for special work projects and events.
A3. Coordinate all custodial work with building activities.
A4. Check attendance daily and arrange housekeeping coverage for unanticipated absences.
A5. Coordinate flex and vacation requests with the supervisor, and arrange housekeeping coverage for scheduled absences.
A6. Coordinate housekeeping coverage for all academic buildings with other Custodian Leads.
A7. Make frequent rounds checking progress and quality of housekeeping services being performed.
A8. Provide initial and ongoing instruction to employees in proper housekeeping methods and procedures and the safe use of equipment and chemicals.
A9. Coach Custodians in deficient areas making sure they understand job expectations.
A10. Keep abreast of new procedures, products and equipment and pass the information on to others.
All. Enlist the help of the supervisor in addressing any ongoing concerns regarding work assignments, progress or performance.
A12. Communicate with day shift supervisor and leadworkers regarding building issues as needed.
A13. Request and deliver housekeeping supplies and equipment for the zone buildings. Maintain adequate inventory of supplies.
40% B. Performance a variety of daily, periodic and seasonal duties.
B1. Perform custodial work in assigned area as directed.
B2. Lock and unlock buildings are required.
B3. Fill in for zone absentees, scheduled and unscheduled, when required.
B4. Fill in campus wide for unscheduled custodial vacancies when necessary.
B5. Assist zone custodians with project work.
B6. Perform other custodial duties when requested by customers or zone supervisor, or self-generated.
B7. Perform routine maintenance and repair of housekeeping equipment.
B8. Participate in zone and campus snow and ice removal efforts.
5% C. Perform miscellaneous other tasks within the zone, and campus wide, as directed.
C1. Coordinate and perform bulb and other recycling as necessary.
C2. Coordinate zone and campus custodial snow removal effort with other Custodian Leads.
C3. Collect from and restock vending machines.
C4. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
